A Southern soldier's experience in a Northern prison, 1894.

Handwritten essay [Nov. 1893?] re Flinn's military service during the Civil War and his time as a prisoner of war incarcerated at Point Lookout, Maryland, located on a strip of land between the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay; Flinn enlisted in the Confederate army shortly before his fifteenth birthday and served in the Seventeenth Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers. He was wounded four times and twice taken prisoner. This talk addresses unhealthy living conditions and diet endured while a prisoner, and aspects of daily life. Volume includes introduction read by Flinn, 27 July 1894, when he presented this talk to students and faculty at South Carolina College, followed by a synopsis published in The Columbia Daily Journal, 28 July 1894.
